[heist video game]Contraband is a 1970s co-op heist game, from Avalanche Studios

Contraband is a co-op open-world game from Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause series.

During the?Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, we got a trailer for Contraband, which shows the planning of a heist.

  Check out the trailer:

The blurb describes Contraband as “a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan.”

This is good news. The seventies may well have been a decade of doormat sideburns and unending beige, but it makes for a good heist backdrop. The last game from Avalanche Studios was Rage 2, which idSoftware co-developed. On that game, I said, “I’d suggest not thinking about it too hard and, instead, try shooting something in the head.” Sage advice.

Before that, the studio’s most recent game was Just Cause 4. Of which I said, “As long as you can stay airborne and keep the high going, you can fill a weekend with cheap thrills the likes of which you’ll get nowhere else.”

Both games were intriguing in parts, filled with explosive blasts, and turn blurry in the memory. On the other hand, Contraband seems like something of a departure for Avalanche.

We don’t have a release date for Contraband, or even a year, so it could be a long way off yet. Given that Xbox Game Studios is publishing, it will more than likely come to Xbox Series X / S and PC.
